This monastery was donated to
the Ordination of Santiago in 1194 so that its members took Holy
orders and at the same time their bodies received a christian burial.
In Romanesque style with Gothic paintings inside, the present church
dates from 13th century and was restored in 1966.
The name of the monastery comes
from the paintings of a serie of heads of women with melancolic
expresions on their faces.
Castelo de Pambre
It is said that it is the best
sample of military architecture in Galicia. This castle is one of
the few existing buildings after the “Irmandiños”
fighting (15th century).
It was erected by Gonzalo Ozores de Ulloa on a hill that dominates
the scenary around 1375. the building was made of granite and served
to protect the pilgrims in their way to Compostela. It is known
that for a time the castle was taken by thieves who sacked the trusting
pilgrims who arrived there.
Pazo de Ulloa
House and family that inspired
Emilia Pardo Bazán in her most famous work. This pazo had
in its origin, a fortress, parade ground...but nothing has been
left from that splendorous period.
It was rebuilt in 1862 after a
fire that destroyed the whole of it except the walls.
Puente Romano de Ferreira
The roman way from Lugo-Iria Flavia
became the original “ camino de Santiago” in the Middle
